PARP Theater - a favorite part of March

PARP Theater

March means PARP—Pick a Reading Partner—in our elementary schools. It's a celebration of reading that’s made extra special by parents and teachers. Each week is filled with surprises—including reading with stuffed animals and buddies from other grades, wearing words and dressing as favorite book characters, swapping books and sharing reviews, meeting authors and guessing mystery readers—all meant to cultivate students’ love of reading.

A much-loved tradition that's unique to Katonah-Lewisboro is PARP Theater—a performance by high school students enrolled in The Actors Studio, John Jay’s most advanced acting class, that brings favorite storybooks to elementary school stages.

This year, students enjoyed six stories of friendship, self-confidence and transformation including “Elephant & Piggie: My New Friend Is So Fun!” “Officer Buckle and Gloria” and “Pig Kahuna." MORE

A focus on engagement, connections and fun

Wellness Wednesday

Students had no idea what to expect when they saw special education teacher Will Seibert’s room on their Wellness Wednesday roster. As he led them along gurgling streams and over wooden bridges built by students, they discovered that he’s also one of the high school’s track coaches, and knows all of the cross country trails that run behind the school.

Pleasant surprises like that didn’t stop, all day long.

Wellness Wednesday, created by School Psychologist Sarah Fryd, took the whole school on a multi-faceted adventure filled with music and art, fresh air and food, and movement and mindfulness. MORE

Science Research students shine at WESEF

WESEF winners

Dramatic music, pulsing blue lights and more than 200 beyond-excited students and their guests set the stage for a thrilling 2025 Regeneron Westchester Science and Engineering Fair (WESEF) Awards Ceremony.

“What an incredibly exciting evening!” said Dr. Laurie Morton, Senior Vice President of Research at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, who stepped on stage to announce the WESEF 2025 finalists—the top 20 students who win the opportunity to compete at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair.

When Dr. Morton said, “In Behavioral and Social Sciences, from John Jay High School, Matt Casavant!” the Wolves’ cheers were heard in the auditorium and in homes across Katonah-Lewisboro that were livestreaming the event.

Nine John Jay High School students received awards that evening. MORE
